Toddler Program Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is geared toward providing each child with developmental programs that are age appropriate. The following is a brief overview of the toddler curriculum, which is the building block for providing skills that are essential to the child in adulthood.
Language: Our program is rich in language activities and resources that are vital to lives of children and that provide opportunities for them to become competent in expressing thoughts and feelings in order to have satisfying social relationships. To foster the language development necessary for literacy, children will engage in song and finger-play, story telling, and much more, providing opportunity for divergent thinking, and problem solving.
Cognitive Development: Children will be given the opportunity to explore, discover, and manipulate a variety of age appropriate materials. Through experiences gained, they will begin to master basic concepts such as, colour and shape recognition, identifying body parts and their functions, puzzles and a variety of other related concepts. Also, children will have occasion to develop fine motor skills, and enhance their attention span.
Social Development: Children will have an opportunity to interact among equals while building positive peer relationships. They may gain greater understanding of their surroundings, the environment, and their role within it. They will begin to develop vital social skills such as, consideration for others, sharing and turn taking, which in turn will strengthen each child's self-confidence and assurance.
The Arts: The students will be given the opportunity to express ideas and feelings through a variety of media. Creative activities foster divergent thinking and enhance a variety of important skills. Activities may include: painting, drawing, crafts, drama, gross motor development, creative movement, and music.
